You guys, I did it! I quit the technical writing job I’ve been working off and on for four years. I told them I wanted to focus on being a mother (AKA quit working for several hours after she goes to bed), and that is partially true. It’s not the full story, though. The full story is that I also wanted some time to myself. Time to create art, write, and learn how to share that better with friends, family, and maybe (hopefully!) a broader audience. The more I filled up my spare moments with reference letters and petitions, the more I felt like a shell of a person. Now that I’ve cut the cord to marching orders (and, less happily, a steady income), it’s amazing how much more alive I feel. Gone are the days of the robot mom and wife!
This site is the product of the weight that’s been lifted from my shoulders. For years, I’ve been trying to figure out the best balance between Etsy, Facebook, and Google’s Blogger to cover my wide-ranging interests and endeavors, but I could never find a system that felt comfortable. I figure my own website is the answer to that problem — this can be anything I want it to be. Of course, this is my first time managing my own website, so you’ll probably see it morph and improve as I learn the tricks of the trade. One thing to look forward to is my very own logo (!), which is currently being developed by my dear cousin, Megan. I’m really excited for that piece of the puzzle, because then will come business cards and other professional materials.
Bottom line: make sure you sign up for email updates! You’ll be able to follow along with blog posts, newly added artwork, and eventually discounts for items from my store as I get that up and running. Also, feel free to drop me a line if you have any questions or just want to chat about something you’ve seen here! Don’t be a stranger. 🙂
